Delivery: On promised day which is 2 days from ordered date. Packaging was good. Book came with air tight seal. Bookmark came with the book.

Book: Feels original, not a digital copy. But paper quality makes it doubtful.

Content: Author express the huge requirement of new ideas and uniqueness. Including success stories of Mark and Musk makes it interesting and inspirational to read.

3.0 out of 5 starsGreat chapters on how to build a monopoly, approach markets, luck, hiring, culture, and sales.
Reviewed in India on 14 September 2019
The next Bill Gates will not build an operating system. The next Larry Page or Sergey Brin won’t make a search engine. And the next Mark Zuckerberg won’t create a social network. If you are copying these guys, you aren’t learning from them.

It’s easier to copy a model than to make something new: doing what we already know how to do takes the world from 1 to n, adding more of something familiar. But every time we create something new, we go from 0 to 1. The act of creation is singular, as is the moment of creation, and the result is something fresh and strange."

5.0 out of 5 stars Peter Thiel is way too underrated!

This book is probably one of those very few books, which will make you sit and contemplate about the contents every now and then. They say, good books are food for thought, and going by that rationale, this book is an all you can eat buffet with a spread all too diverse. There are certain dishes which you can skip, but the buffett in itsel has certain signature delicacies which will leave a long lasting impression on your faculties. This is one of those few business books, whose learnings I have used in my own business, and trust me, the results were overwhelming. Do not miss this epic read! Best of luck!

Few business books that you can read through without getting lost or heavy headed. this one moves really fast because it is grounded in practical experience and common sense. The lessons are equally applicable to someone working in a large corporate environment on their own projects.

5.0 out of 5 stars Notes on our civilization
Reviewed in India on 26 July 2017

It is unique for anyone to capture the footsteps and essence of creation; be it business or a trail to new frontiers. What makes this narrative 'singular' is it's narrator's scope, while offering us a rare peak through a wizened belligerent's vantage to the pits and peaks of our age.

Our civilization is premised on the promise of the coming of generations impatient with the status quo, itching to wrought change. Change, as is it's nature, can be a double edged sword. If wielded by fascists, anarchists or power hungry egomaniacs, it hinders sensible, benevolent progress. But every once in a while, when wielded by individuals blessed with inspiration, it helps to cut through inertia.

Since the day of Gutenberg, that sword is being passed on almost contiguously from one enlightened to another, separated occasionally by geography or couple of decades. And so that rapier, come as it did through the Bletchley barracks, the CERN browser and a couple of shady garages in Palo Alto, is now being handed by the Don of PayPal Mafia to, well everyone, in the form of this condensed wisdom of our species.

What you do with it, as they say, is upon your sweet will. I, for myself, intend to put it to the test.

Thank you, Peter Thiel.

4.0 out of 5 stars Why 0 to 1? Why not 1 to N?

One of the excellent non-fiction books coming straight from the first-hand experiences of the well-renowned CEO & investor - Peter Thiel. It easily answers why creating something new and adding value to it takes it from 0 to 1. And what about going from 1 to n?

Ordinary examples with extraordinary CEOs who're running billion-dollar companies he invested gives us a 10x zoom on how things actually penetrate a market and survive decades from there.

This book is so crisp that I finished a bit faster. From computers to cleantech this book is a gateway to think and explore entrepreneurship as a whole. Fantastic one. Undoubtedly, a must-read.

3.0 out of 5 stars Had to push through, to complete the book.

Lots of unnecessary content or information that could have been very well avoided or made shorter. Example, last chapter about the looks and behaviours of some celebrities and founders. Man was that really necessary? I can't see any value addition out of that. Similarly, after initial 1 or 2 chapters I had to drag myself to move further. At times felt like giving up on the book midway. There are some key takeaways for sure and the chapters are not redundant. Majority of the topics revolve around silicon valley startups, why some got hit and why some failed according to author's view. Some bragging on PayPal and slight advertisement about Founders fund (hope the name is right) and Palantir. Takeaways are useful, but the unnecessary content and personal views just eclipses overall value of the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very interesting and balanced view point

I rate this book very highly for few factors-
1) straight talk and continuity
2) Balanced and futuristic view point
3) straight from the horse's mouth

While I may not have answers to his probing questions , they are very thought provoking.
I would recommend this book as a must read for anyone who is in final years of college, or someone who has been in technology for some time, leaders and managers. Of course, the other creed, e.g. motivational speakers and corporate trainers can also read this for dropping few lines in their largely unproductive blah blah but better check IPR copyrights etc.
