Bangalore, India – October 5, 2017: This festive season, Amazon.in announced the expansion of its own delivery network in the Eastern states of India. This expansion will now enable faster deliveries to customers in Meghalaya, Tripura and Jharkhand via the expanded line haul and last mile delivery network. With a network of 5 Service partner nodes and close to 35 ‘I Have Space’ (IHS) stores in the region, Amazon.in will be able to offer faster delivery to customers in these states. Prior to this announcement, Amazon Logistics was already delivering via its own delivery network to other states in Eastern India like West Bengal, Assam, Bihar and Orissa.

Commenting on the commencement of deliveries via Amazon Logistics in Meghalaya, Tripura and Jharkhand Mr. Akhil Saxena, Vice President, India Customer Fulfilment, Amazon India said, “We believe customers, no matter where they reside or are located, value fast & reliable delivery. Beginning this festive season, we have begun commencement of deliveries to customers in Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Dhanbad, Shillong and Agartala through our own delivery network. This will enable us to better serve our customers and also support our Prime customers with free and fast delivery.” Mr. Saxena added, “Expansion of our delivery network in Meghalaya, Tripura and Jharkhand will create numerous opportunities for our Service Partners and IHS Store partners in the region to scale their business to greater heights.”

To support the customer and seller demand from the region, Amazon has 2 fulfilment centres (FC) in East India, both of which are located in West Bengal. The first FC was set up in 2015 catering to a mix of categories from the Amazon.in marketplace. Earlier this year, Amazon.in launched their second fulfilment centre in West Bengal, which is a specialised infrastructure dedicated for large appliances and furniture. With these 2 FCs, Amazon has a combined presence of 100,000 square feet and offers a storage space of 300,000 cubic feet to sellers in the region.

With a vision to transform the way India buys and sells, Amazon India has consistently made significant investments in technology, logistics and infrastructure. As part of the vision, the company has invested in building a network of 41 Fulfilment Centres (FC) in 13 states across the country with a combined storage space of close to 13 million cubic feet with close to 150 Amazon Delivery Stations, 350 Service Partners nodes, and 17,500 ‘I Have Space’ stores in the country.

The Service Partner program is one of the last mile models by Amazon Logistics in India wherein entrepreneurs act as Amazon.in’s local distribution network providers and create the last mile delivery footprint. Currently, the company has over 250 Service Partner nodes across the country, of which more than 20 of them cater to the delivery needs of the Eastern states of India such as West Bengal, Assam, Tripura, Meghalaya, Jharkhand, Bihar and Orissa.

Under the ‘I Have Space’ program (IHS), Amazon India partners with local store owners across different cities to deliver products to customers within a 2 – 4 kilometre radius of their store. These local entrepreneurs understand their area well and have immense goodwill in their neighbourhood to efficiently deliver and receive products. Amazon.in has successfully unlocked the potential of such store owners, allowing them to supplement their regular income and generate more footfalls in their stores. On an average, Amazon India’s store partners deliver between 20 to 30 packages a day, earning a fee per delivery. Amazon India now has over 17,500 stores under this flagship program in over 225 cities.
