Amazon.in expands its Sort Centre network in India; adds 4 more Sort Centres
Amazon launches new sort centres this year in Vijayawada, Ranchi, Goa and Siliguri
Expansion enables Amazon customers from the region to receive faster delivery of their orders
Vijayawada, June 20, 2019: Amazon.in today announced the launch of its 4 new Sort Centres (SC) in Vijayawada, Ranchi, Goa and Siliguri, while expanding the processing capacity of its existing network, to support the increased customer demand from these regions. The expansion will enable Amazon customers in the region to receive faster delivery of their orders.
With this expansion, Amazon.in has increased its processing capacity for sortation of customer packages from 1 million square feet in 2018 to 1.5 million square feet spread across 19 States in readiness for the upcoming festive season, thus creating opportunities for thousands of jobs across its sort centre network.
The sort centre network plays an integral role in building connectivity and increasing speed of transportation between Amazon’s fulfilment centres and last mile delivery network. The company has invested in technology & innovation in this network with the introduction of Sort Slides & Auto Sorters. Sort Slides allow easy classification, identification and sortation of packages. Auto Sorters are completely automated machines that perform end to end sorting of packages. The investment in automation has helped Amazon India build over 30% efficiency in the sortation process.
