'Extreme Ownership' (How U.S. Navy Seals Lead & Win) - Book Review.

The CENTRAL tenet of this book that runs throughout its course is "Extreme Ownership". It means that as a leader, no matter what happens, WHO makes a mistake, ONLY you are responsible.

This book made me happily uncomfortable. In a high stressed job like mine (running a mobile games company), there are massive mess ups DAILY. I get very frustrated, angry & sometimes just plain defeated. 99% of these errors happen due to carelessness, lack of attention, lack of following process etc.

THIS BOOK SHATTERED MY 'Oh I'm stuck; What do I do' & made me realise - ONLY I am responsible.

Note that the book mentions that getting rid of bad managers or incompetent workers is ALSO leadership - so that's what Extreme leadership IS vs trying to make do with blame, shame, some gain.

The chapters are all set in Iraq & end with 'principles' & live business case studies (the SEALS who wrote this book Jocko Willink, Leif Babin are now biz consultants).

The book has some fantastic takeaways:

A good leader is "attentive to details but not obsessed by them"; "aggressive, not overbearing" (something I must learn).

Tip: Chap 1 & 2 are slow; don't quit reading.
