This book introduces a concept called Deep Work. Definition? Deep Work: (n) Professional Activities performed in a state of distraction-free concentration that push your cognitive capabilities to their limit. These efforts create new value, improve your skill, and are hard to replicate.
Author, Cal Newport, has divided this book into 2 parts. 1. Part-1 of this book explains why deep work is important in today's information economy, and 2. Part-2 explains practical ways to perform deep work.
So far pretty boring, right! But what if I tell you that this book will tell you the following, all linking with the concept that the author calls Deep Work:
1. Why social media platforms are taking our ability to generate high-quality valuable work? 2. Which groups of people will thrive in today's economy and how to be a part of this group? 3. What's the law of Productivity? 4. Why being busy is often misinterpreted by us as being productive? 5. Why willpower is finite? 6. What's Unconscious Thought Theory and Attention Restoration Theory? 7. Why there is a need to have shutdown ritual from the workplace?
And the list goes on! Not only the above information will help you to develop a new perspective about things that we have taken for granted. The practical ways to achieve deep work are really what's more interesting to read and try out!
Now, I leave it up to you! To read or not to, that's the question you need to answer!
