Acevedo's works always give me hope and inspiration but I believe this was her finest work. The story is based on the American Airlines flight 587 crash that happened back in 2001, one of the deadliest plane crashes reported ever which took the lives of not only those aboard but also the ones on the land when the plane crushed their houses when it fell. The story has changed a few facts from the incident but the emotions of the people and their losses have been captured wonderfully.
The story talks about two step sisters Camino and Yahaira who share a common father but are unaware of the fact until they learn about the plane crash and the reality that their father is dead. The story talks about the secrets a person can keep, human emotions when they lose their loved ones and forgiveness. And the lyrical way the entire story has been written only makes it better.
I wanted the story to go on for some more time, wanted more about the time the two sisters spent together, which I felt could have been elongated. It felt the story got over too soon. But overall.....an amazing read.
