17 well-crafted stories, in different genres and styles, make this anthology by Varadharajan Ramesh a delectable read. As the title suggests, all the stories are connected with the common thread of twists and turns yet they are entirely different in theme and treatment. Some stories touch the readers with their poignancy, some thrill with the ingenuity of the criminals while others leave them appalled by the depravity of human minds. The writer astonishes with his skilful portrayal of his characters who are fallible, flawed and thus very real. His words are not preachy yet they make you think with their subtle, inherent messages. Difficult to pick a few (because each story delights with a unique flavour) but I must mention Repairing Cushions, Mariposa, Dependent, Good Ol' Coop, Lonely as my favourites. Fast pace and gripping narration make it a must read book.
