"If there were something out there that could kill you, wouldn't you try to be an expert on it?"
I started reading Almost Midnight because I was trying to look for a book from the letter A for a particular challenge. And then, when I found this one, I was floored. Initially, I didn't particularly like it, but soon, I couldn't help but be captivated by it.
Almost Midnight is a book that contains two short stories: 1. Midnights and 2. Kindred Spirits. The first one is about Noel and Mags who met on a New Year's Eve party and have been friends since. The second one is about Elena and Gabe, two Star Wars fans as they wait in line before the movie and bond over their love for it.
I found both the stories rather beautiful. In their own way, each of them was special. I loved the idea behind Midnights and Kindred Spirits spoke to my love for fandoms. Both of them were also very beautifully written. I mean, when I had read my first book by Rowell, I didn't particularly like it. The writing style hadn't been it for me and I was kind of irritated. Nothing of that sorts happened with this book. Perhaps, the charm was behind it being two short stories. So if you're a short story fan, then you should give it a go. It's brilliant that way.
