About the author

Tim Ferriss has been listed as one of Fast Company‘s ‘Most Innovative Business People’ and one of Fortune‘s ‘40 under 40’. He is an early-stage technology investor/advisor (Uber, Facebook, Shopify, Duolingo, Alibaba, and 50+ others) and the author of four #1 New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestsellers, including The 4-Hour Workweek, The 4-Hour Body, The 4-Hour Chef and Tools of Titans. The Observer and other media have called Tim ‘the Oprah of audio’ due to the influence of The Tim Ferriss Show podcast, which is the first business/interview podcast to exceed 200 million downloads. Tim received his BA from Princeton University in 2000, where he focused on language acquisition and East Asian Studies. He developed his non-fiction writing with Pulitzer Prize winner John McPhee and formed his life philosophies under Nobel Prize winner Kenzaburo Oe. He is far dumber than both. Tim enjoys bear claws, chocolate croissants, writing ‘About’ pages in third person and neglecting italics.

Tip: Note the tools mentioned in this.
If you are struggling financially, or have major responsibilites like education of children, family medical issues and so on, watch before you jump.
There is much to appreciate and this book is sure to create enthusiasm in yourself.
However pursuit of "excitement" instead of happiness is sure shot way to disaster if not seen correctly.
It can be argued what should be our dreams - author produces some examples like owning a lamborghini, which are really not very convincing.
On the other hand, there are some other examples like learning a language etc. which fall under continous self development category, which can be translated to each person's interest and livelihood strategy.
There is much to learn, like time management , prioratization, creating big hairy goals and taking hard look at seeming problems and roadblocks, which can be really very useful.
Read with caution and implement at your peril.
It supports the complete process of joining the new rich club by following four steps
1. Define :- It defines what is your worst case scenario of leaving the job. What are the alternatives you have to overcome the situation? It puts focus on creating your short timelines what you want to be or do in near future. The template for creation of timelines also provided which shows the amount required for each timeline is not that much as we think.
2. Eliminate: - In this step, author puts focus of elimination of all non-productive things around you using 80/20 principle. It says that our 80% happiness comes from 20% of our output and vice versa. The quote at the beginning of the chapter by Bruce Lee sums the chapter “One does not accumulate but eliminate. It is not daily increase but daily decrease. The height of cultivation always runs to simplicity.”
3. Automate: - In this author explains the importance of outsourcing life from personal to business which saves lots of time. Author explained the process of automation of business as it grows over a period of time.
4. Liberation:- The last step of the process is liberation in which author discussed ways to be free from job or from business.
Learning’s :- Some of the key learning from the books
a) Batch processing of identical jobs to save time and energy.
b) Checking emails only twice a day.
c) Create small timelines of things you want to do and achieve.
d) Checklist of 09 Not to do things in life
Overall review: - It is an unusual book which gives you wings to break the shackles of daily 09 to 05 job and aims at achieving freedom with financial gains. It aims at spending quality life with your loved ones and hobbies which you enjoy. Overall it is very good read which gives us insight about what is our aim life.

I've listened to Tim's podcasts for good few years, and respect his interview skills and the type of people he invites.
But that does not make him a writer - if that were the criteria then all radio/tv broadcasters/new-readers/weather-reporters will be writers too. Too much content thrown into the book in a false hope something somewhere may be of use to someone.

The author breaks it down in four steps D E A and L
D is for definition and is probably the only part of the book of any substance. If you’re under 23, naive, and never stand up for self you might get something out of it. It’s mostly work mindset a lot of people have developed over a year or so in the work world.
E is elimination which is his time management section. Honestly there is some good advice , however, there are way better books on the topic. He advocates the low information diet which basically being willfully ignorant.
A is for automation. In this section he advocates for first automating/ outsourcing as much in your life as you can to save time and money.
But the main focus is setting up a business online that sells things of little value very overpriced and attempting to automate that. Having worked in online marketing, I can tell you the information here is outdated, vague, and not very thorough. If you want to set up a business online I would recommend reading a different book. He also advocates calling yourself an expert and teaching courses on topics you have no authority in. Ultimately, this is where the book falls apart as this is his central way to live the four hour work week, which if you take a look at his own life he isn’t living that way.
For L is for liberation and I took his low information diet and stopped reading.
Conclusion: this book is for naive, weak, dummies who hate their jobs and will take any terrible advice to give them hope. Ultimately this book is like his own online business which sold a product of little value he wasn’t an expert in. Which is what this book is.
