His father's overexpectations only ruined his self-confidence further with each failure. A ray of hope walked into his life as his wife, a charismatic personality spreading joy wherever she went. Everything is going per plan, but darkness comes knocking soon. He finds out that she does not have much time to live and takes it upon himself to fight all odds - even his family, if need be - to help her fight her medical condition. His father sees his own redemption in helping them; he knows his son will be a winner only if he will fight for her, with her. Will a defeated son prove himself to be a good husband? Will the father-son duo together be able to change the course of fate? Her Last Wish is an inspiring story of love, relationships and sacrifice which proves once again how a good wife makes the best husband.

Review-
Ajay K Pandey is back with another romantic tragedy after his blockbuster debut "You are the Best Wife", and he does not disappoint with his second book. This book, although only a few leagues close to his debut masterpiece, still does its job of grabbing the reader by their hearts and taking them into the protagonist and narrator, Vijay's life as he comes to know of his wife's illness and shall do everything in and way out of his capabilities to ensure she is admitted to the best facilities where her illness is treated.
Vijay is what outsiders, well let's say people of our society, would call, a "super failure". He has given tens of entrance exams and barely made through only one of them. His mother, being a part of the field of journalism has contacts, hence she makes a few calls and gets her son the job of an assistant professor in a college.
Then, comes another test in Vijay's life: finding his bride. His profile is created on a matrimonial site with exaggerated details. And no prizes for guessing, but every woman he is sent to meet or comes to meet him ends up rejecting him.
Then, comes Astha, a woman full of life and poles apart in everything from Vijay. But shocker, she agrees to this match-making. Gradually Vijay falls in love with his wife and just when he is finally happy with his life, it decides to makes him feel like a loser again by making Astha test positive with HIV.
What forms the crux of the novel is the stretch to which Vijay can go to make sure Astha lives, and his journey, other members, like his family, and Astha's ex-boyfriend play vital parts.
Strengths-
1. The biggest strength of the novel lies in its narrative. It's not limited to Vijay himself. Others also get to put forth their views in standalone chapters that give that individual character's insight of the story.
2. The emotions hit the right notes at the right places(without making it look cheesy). It'll make you smile, it'll make you cry, it'll make you laugh, but there won't be too much of it.
3. Readers who have read You are the Best Wife are sure to get hit by a wave of nostalgia on page 198.
4. After giving out a masterpiece with You are the Best Wife, expectations definitely shoot up high. Thankfully, Her Last Wish does not disappoint.
Weaknesses-
1. Some dialogues, I felt, could've been written or framed better. Buy the editor has done a fine job.
2. What was a strength in You are the Best Wife came out a minor weakness in Her Last Wish: typos! Spotted about 3 in the book, but I think they should be overlooked (read - may be overlooked) by others because I am a reviewer and it's my job to hunt 'em out.
Rating:
The cover is beautiful and fits perfectly with the story - 5/5
The premise of the story is "been there, done that" kind, but the presentation stands out - 4/5
The blurb is appealing and will definitely make one want to buy the novel - 4/5
Overall, it's a 3.8/5 from me.
Final Verdict:
Don't ask mine, just go get it!
But anyway, since I've been asked, I'd recommend it for everyone who's looking for an inspirational love story.
I am a very busy women who is always busy with office, home, kids, Just casually started reading this book while eating my food, but I don't have heart to put it down, I continued reading it during one hour of travel to my office ( having kindle app in mobile helped me) , become busy in office, even then my mind wanted to read it, somehow controlled my mind and involved in office work, then again while having lunch, continued to read the story, again while returning to home, while preparing dosa for everyone in home for dinner, all the time I had mobile in hand reading this book.
I loved the theme of the story very much. I don't want to compare his writing style with anyone else, each one is unique in their own way. He seems to be a very casual writer and he used very simple common english words, so even those who are having average English knowledge can enjoy this story.
HIV and AIDS are different!!!!! I astonished to read this information. My brother and his wife are doctors, but I don't know this information. So I enquired with them and they confirmed that it is true. Important informations won't reach the public when it is conveyed just as an information. So he beautifully incorporated informations about HIV, he cleared common man's basic doubts about HIV and AIDS, how we should treat HIV infected persons, everything clearly explained.
I am great fan of romantic novels, especially tamil romantic novels by few women authors, in those novels always hero used to be portrayed so high, very confident, rich etc etc., so introduction of hero in this story as an average man, who faced failures in his life boggled me. But this is the truth, author made us understand that a hero need not be like someone whom we see in movies or in romantic novels, but an ordinary man who loves his girl so much and who is ready to anything for her.
So after reading this novel, I found out the answer for the question in my mind, why he is having more women fans and why my friend is very much craze over his writing!!!! I think it is due to the characterisation of hero, his wife's blood result showed HIV positive and his result is HIV negative, but even then he didn't doubt her, so his faith over his wife even in that situation, raised him to a great hero, every woman wants a hero like him in her life, faith is the basement for any strong relationship.
So now I planned to read author's first novel, I hope that I will like it too.
Highly recommended for all young adults.
Life changing story with a perspective of positive outlook.
