I bought this book knowing that it was used, but I do have to say that gently used is not what showed up. Every single page was ripped and unfortunately the seller didn't take the time to piece the page back together correctly and just slapped the tape on. Some of the pictures don't line up and the book also came very dirty.....I mean like squished food (or boogers....I tried not to think of what it was) in a couple of the pages too. My boys love the story, but I felt like the seller should have relayed that is was in pretty bad shape. Oh well.
I found the illustrations in this book to be kind of scary. Purchased for my toddler who was having nightmares and it wasn't very helpful. He is very interested in the gun toy that the little boy had in every scene, not something I'd like him to focus on...
This is a good simple book for talking about bad dreams, monsters and nighttime fears when your toddler hits this stage of development. However, there's one scene that's just not appropriate in this day and age, particularly for preschool-age children -- a scene where the boy aims a gun at the monster, threatening to shoot if the monster doesn't go away. I'd never read the book before so was unpleasantly surprised when we got to this particular scene. We now read it to say "Go away monster or I'll scare you" but there's still the illustration of the boy aiming the gun. I wish the author would update and rerelease the book to change this scene. That would make it an excellent book.
