Clever, witty and a nice way to challenge snail stereotypes obviously. There are a few 'interactive' elements which are simple and a nice touch. My three-year old son's half-french so the smattering of french words etc allows me to put on a ridiculous french accent when telling the story. I think I love it more than him, but he enjoys it too.
I absolutely love this book. We bought it for our baby, who has no opinion on what we read to her yet, but I had a fantastic time reading this aloud and I cannot wait until she is old enough to understand it. Escargot is a charming French snail who wants to a.) get to the end of the book to eat a salad (with croutons and a light vinaigrette dressing), and b.) popularize snails. There are lots of opportunities for kids to engage with Escargot (including a moment where he agrees to try eating a carrot with the reader), and the illustrations are adorable. I highly recommend.
