This book somewhat provides the detailed account of Zen lifestyle and zazen meditation rules and regulations. How to breathe, sit, walk, not think and so on. Extremely well crafted that's easy to read but requires multiple reads to fully comprehend the essence of zen. Good intro book, if I may. This book deals mostly in the how the practice of zazen works, the codes of conduct, the methods to practice, as in the 'way' of Zen, some parts deal with history of Zen derived from the author's experience (some from the D.T Suzuki's works) and second half of the book mainly deals with philosophy of Zen, which is usually tricky to grasp, as they are over-contemplation of 'koans' and the origin of such and such. (Zen is a complex philosophy of 'the core of simplicity' anyways, explaining Zen would defeat the purpose of truly being mindful of it. So one may treat any Zen texts delicately, to incorporate in daily life; rather than a tool of intellectual conquest)

In summer you adapt to heat, winter to cold. Animals have this adaptability to a high degree. Humans too but because they fashion ideas of what they ought to be or how they ought to live they are at war with the environment and themselves. The purpose of this koan is to teach you the be at one with every aspect of your life'
