In a world of steamy romances, psycho killers, tragedy, dysfunctional families, mysteries, and graphic action scenes, it is welcoming to find a book that sweetly(but realistically) reminds what life and friendship are all about. What a refreshing read!
Kate, a breast cancer survivor, is challenged by her circle of friends to go on an adventurous trip with her daughter. She agrees as long as each of them do something that challenges and scares them. And Kate gets to pick the challenge for each friend. At first the challenges seem very simple, but they end up being what each lady needs. Each chapter tells the story of one friend’s challenge and ends with Kate’s.
The author really delves in to each character. These women become your friends. This is a circle of friends of which I want to be a part! My only “complaint” is that it ended too soon. I wanted a chapter where they all got back together and shared their experiences and what has happened since. So many carrots left dangling. This was an excellent books that i definitely recommend reading!
This book is the ultimate women's book club novel: it features multiple well drawn women characters, each with individual problems and stories, with engaging conflicts that make up a frame plot that stretches each woman to confront her fears and problems in a positive way. The book is enjoyable, engaging and positive, but as the author's other book, has one episode of sensuality that will offend more sensitive readers (is this episode per a formula dictated by publishers?). Despite this very short part of an episode and the casual attitudes towards premarital sex the episode expresses, the values of the book are on the whole affirmative and positive, and the book well worth reading.
I discovered this by chance and really liked the development of characters and story line in each of her books. I am enjoying this author. I think she has written 3 books that I read, and I am going to look eagerly for more.
Even though this is basically a series of interconnected short stories, the characters are wonderfully developed and rich in detail. You think this is going to be a light quick read, but you find yourself appreciating the depth of the insights presented. Each one of the main characters is "real" enough to become the main character in a separate novel, and that's no small feat. My book club loved it and had a good discussion.
Our book club chose this book and 4 out of 5 of us loved it. One member went on to read Ms Bauermeisters other books. This was our second book by this author. The book gave us lots to talk about. Highly recommend!
This is a great read. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about women experiencing new adventures that challenge them, and as often happens in real life, coming away with lessons learned that weren't expected. I'd recommend this to my reading friends.
