This story cracked all of us up throughout the month of November. The rhyming in the story is done really well, and it's just a fun story to read. We read it countless times - my 13 year old down to my 2 year old! I read the other reviews about the font being too small and hard to read, and that is true. I think if it were a different font the smaller size wouldn't be that big of a deal, but the font and smaller font size do make it a bit tricky. Font choice and size aside, this is a great book that I would recommend to others wanting to build a Thanksgiving book library.
So many things I love about this book. The rhyming, alliteration is a great language lesson. The story teaches kids to be thankful even though they don't always get what they want. Finally, it's makes a great are project. In 2004 I was teaching Creative Art's in an elementary and included literacy as much as I could. Kindergarteners loved the story and we created turkeys in the same style (glued on to tagboard!) I Still buy a copy for all my grandchildren. Still a favorite!
My adult children had a copy of this when they were growing up, but sadly it was lost in a fire back in 2009. We became nostalgic and so I ordered this. I was a little surprised that the book was smaller than the previous version we had, but the artwork and story are exactly the same. Still a great children's classic, perfect for the lead up to thanksgiving.
I bought this book to read to my grandchildren on Thanksgiving. I read it to my husband when we received it and we thought it was so fun that we recorded me reading it for my out of town grandkids who won't be coming for Thanksgiving. It's soon to be one of our favorites! The story is really fun, it's fun to read with clever rhyming lyrics and the illustrations are bright and fun.
This witty, rhyming picture book is perfect for Thanksgiving! The people of Squawk Valley want a turkey to eat for Thanksgiving, so they hold a turkey art contest. Their plan is foiled by the clever and tricky turkey.
It is such a cute book! I bought the Kindle version for my kids and we read it on Thanksgiving. If you missed out on this book that day, you will have to pay a little more, but it is still a bargain at $3.99. Definitely worth the money!
The Illustrations: Loved the illustrations. The artwork was quirky and silly, just like the story. The cleverness of the turkey is beautifully rendered in these pictures.
Loved this book however it’s pretty small. But still a cute story and my 2 year old liked it. We buy a book for every holiday and this was perfect for his thanksgiving reading. Would recommend and buy again
A really good Thanksgiving book and my 3 year old loved it. He wanted it read every night up through and even after Thanksgiving. It is well illustrated with a cute story. We thoroughly enjoyed reading it together.
