I didn't realise this was an American publication. Measurements and ingredients are in American. I didn't realise how many ingredients have different names in America (even flour and fat). I had to google the recipes to find out what the English equivalent was. Also, the recipes make 24 cakes as standard, which means halving all the quantities. Sounds straightforward, but I found it a pain! Some lovely recipes in here though.
Was a bit disappointed in this book to be honest. It appears to me to be just a decorating book using a few basic recipes to build upon. The measurements are a bit strange too, that is it shows ingredients for 24-48 cupcakes at a time. I would not recommend this book although the pictures and book quality itself is lovely.
It's a beautiful book with great decorating ideas but the basic yellow and chocolate cake recipes in the front were disappointing as far as flavor and texture, especially the yellow. I usually use box cakes and wished I had done so for our Thanksgiving dinner. I may try again and double the vanilla and butter but WON'T take to a family event to share without a taste test ;/
I feel like this book is a great example of choosing quantity OVER quality. The recipes at the front have been awful, cupcakes & frosting alike.. Too sweet or just taste.. well, awful. It's a nice big book of just photos, but I am hesitant to try any other recipe in there mostly when they all incorporate the base recipes at the front... I will update this review when I am brave enough & have plenty of time to waste for another take on the recipes.
This book has great ideas but the recipes are awful. The cupcakes are super dry and they do not taste good. Also, I was very disappointed when I realized that you need to buy a mix for some recipes. Do not buy this book, just go to the library and rent and decide from there if you would like to buy it.
The recipes themselves are great, however the book fell apart on the 3rd time opening it. Good thing the pages are numbered so I could at least put it back in order. I've had other cookbooks for years and be perfect. Very disappointed. Will have to find something to store the pages in so they don't get lost.
This book is "ok" if you plan to buy the suggested Betty Crocker mix and use it. I Regret making this purchase. There are recipes to follow if you want to make them from scratch but for some reason they don't come out nicely or even remotely similar to the 'real thing'. (Yes, I followed all measurements and times precisely.) It seems like this is a nice way to get persons to buy more of the Betty Crocker cake mixes...
I would not recommend this for anybody serious about baking or cupcakes for that matter... if it's for a kid who's just learning or you want to have fun with them fine.
The pros... has nice frosting recipes and decorative tips with photos. The cons... the recipes need help! (Your better off buying their mix to go along with the frosting!)
Layout, Designs and Visuals= 5 stars, everything else is 2-3 at best.
