paper jacket once removed shows a cloth stain half the books cover and a page was dedicated to someone and torn out to remove the hand written message. I would say the book shows more ware than advised.
I ordered two books for my library. I wanted a book I could read over and over that contained interesting and good information. The book arrived in a solid box that would keep it from getting beat up in transit. I truly appreciated that. Some pages were a little warped as if at one point the book got wet. Luckily they were not winkled nor torn. Many of the pages were fine. It contains lots of beautiful color photos and timeless information. Also brings good memories of watching Martha Stewart on her show. I wish those seasons were available on bluray. I want to find this book again as a gift to my daughter.
I am not especially a great fan of Martha Stewart, however, I must admit she knows her stuff. I was fearing that she would choose the tough way to take care of flowers and plants, but it's all the contrary actually, she likes using natural methods against plants diseases and I do appreciate that, I have been pleasantly surprised. Her book speaks more of the East cold areas, and since I am in California, I didn't find all the info I was searching for, but it is normal : she only speaks of the things she knows very well, and she knows a lot ! I am not as efficient as she is in gardening, but I know enough to be able to say she knows her stuff. I would even say there is far beyond the day-to- day things and details. She tackled to very big projects on very wide areas, and my garden doesn't need such a huge plan, but as we say in France : "who can do the most, can do the least". She has a true and deep understanding of gardening and we can feel she loves that. As usually, she is over the top for everything. Even if we do only the half of her work, it is already enormous. Anyway, if you want to learn deeply gardening, with all the logical explanations, by understanding what you are doing, this book is for you. I still don't love Martha Stewart a lot, but I must admit that I admire her for her efficiency and deep knowledge in this gardening field.
This is THE manual to use when starting a garden. This is truly a gardening bible for green thumb homeowners. We've used Martha's tips and tricks extensively with our gardens at home, but what I love about this book is that she makes it EASY to understand. I appreciate that the book is laid out with monthly garden tasks, but then blends in sections on planning and establishment as well.
This book allows those of us who love our gardens to take pride in the little things. Each month addresses the chores that can be planned, which is a labor of love for those of us who like to "play in the dirt". While going through the book I came to realize that Martha Stewart takes pride in the things that many of us gardeners do: the planning, the preparation of pots and soil. There is a sense of calm as she discusses these tasks, and I found myself thinking "I like to do that, too". This books can help folks feel that gardening can work, even if you don't have acres of land.
