This is an incredible graphic novel that I think needs to be read by as many people as possible! Omar and his brother Hassan are Somalian refugees and this is their story about their life in a Kenyan UN refugee camp. They live there without parents but are cared for by Fatuma, an amazing foster mother. Omar learns the value of education and works hard to remain in the camp's schools, while balancing caring for his brother. There are also lots of other children in the camp and you begin to have a glimpse of some of the battles they have to face too - I found the stories of the girls fighting to remain in education incredibly inspiring.
This book opened my eyes to something I knew nothing about and it was so well written - the graphic novel format made it really accessible. Highly highly recommended.
