My 5 year old loves all 3 of the Darn Squirrels books. He anxiously awaited the Cat Next Door, and was thrilled when it arrived. I had to read it twice in a row. He asked me if there were going to be more. I think he wants an entire series. Fortunately, the books are silly, but not in a way an adult would find terribly dull. They aren't great literature, by far, but they're amusing and fun. My son and I both shake our fists and shout, "Those darn squirrels," every time it shows up on the page. He thinks it's hilarious, and I think it's adorable.
Now the squirrels go after the mean ol' cat. Hilarious! The story continues! My mom loves watching the critters outside her back window - but also hates the harm they bring to her plants. But she keeps on feeding them...this cute children's book showcases that same love-hate relationships between a grumpy old man, the birds he loves, and the squirrels he comes to love - those ornery squirrels...
My (then four ) seven year old loved the original 'Those Darn Squirrels' and hoped that this one would continue the saga. Sadly it takes a turn to the neighbor lady and her grumpy pet. Still a fun story and of course wonderful illustrations.
My name is Jack. I am 7. My mommy got me this book and is helping me write this. Those Darn Squirrels and the Cat Next Door is a interesting book. I like it. The squirrels are smart. I think another seven year old boy would probably like this book.
