Adam Rubin is one of our family’s favourite children’s authors and his books have helped cultivate an appreciation of the ridiculous and slapstick humour in general. Those Darn Squirrels and the Cat Next Door is my favourite in this series. Old Man Fookwire is a character worthy of recognition in western literature.
I'd say this book isn't as fantastic as the original or Those Darn squirrels fly south. But it's fun and my daughter loves to say the "those darn squirrels" part. I bought the book because I couldn't find it at our local libraries.
My kids and I loved this book. It was funny, and allowed for some great adlibbing on my part as I read it out loud. My kids now shake their fist and yell “those darn squirrels” anytime we see one out the window. Honestly, I do too.
My grandson and I love these stories! This is the third we've read in a series of "Those Darn Squirrels" by Adam Rubin. The books are fun to read and inspire further discussion as well as creative thinking to come up with plans to foil or help the squirrels. When in one book the squirrels devise a plan to work together to get to Old Man Fookwire's bird feeders that have been "squirrel proofed", my grandson was inspired to devise his own plan. We had a great time working out a plan together and he drew it up on paper. It was so much fun working out our own plan of how we would get to the squirrel feeders, that we taped our plan with my 7 year-old grandson's drawing to the back page of the book. I'm sure some time in the future my grandson and I will have a great time remembering this fun afternoon as we look back on his childhood drawing.
A great B I G THANK YOU to author Adam Rubin and illustrator Daniel Salmeiri for these delightful books.
Probably the most favorite books for all my three of nephews. They love it because we both cats and squirrels in our backyard. The youngest kid, after reading halfway, thought "those darn squirrels" were going to devise a plan and catapult the cat into the river. This book is hilarious for adults and children.
