To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
My seven (almost eight year old) is fascinated by WWII. This book failed to keep his attention and he reads at the fifth grade level. We stopped about a quarter of the way through. He was confused and there wasn’t enough explanation as you went through. It was almost as if you already had to know and understand WWII history to follow what was going on, where the characters were and what they were doing. Maybe we’ll try again in a year or two.
I am not going to lie. As much as my 8 year old grandson loves these books it doesn’t make him love reading over any over of his pursuits, like playing on his Switch. That would be a miracle I don’t think any book could pull off. But during his mandated reading time at home he often spontaneously says “Nanny I love these books, they are so interesting you couldn’t have picked any better books for me if I have to read.” These books spark many conversations about the events or items described in the books. I use the internet to find images or videos about things that he has trouble visioning, like the the gladiator’s chariots or locations like Galveston Island and it’s surrounding waters. Thank you so much for these books!
