Actually, I met these Bengalis
Reviewed in India on 6 December 2021
Nice brief succint memoir with great personas of filmdom, most of them from Bengal or are Bengalis to core. Written and narrated in easy free flowing lucid style but lack depth and insight into any of the personalities discussed. Part hagiography - part memoir: Gulzarish taken too far. Some notable absentees from his professional and personal life: AR Rahman, Meenakumari, Lataji, Jagjit Singh, Vishal Bhardwaj, etc. May be he left them for a sequel - and pray it will have shades of grey when he talks about them in his next one. A quick one hour read which does not add if you know these gems one way or the other. A half hearted middling attempt by an extraordinary writer and narrator.
