Too many Americanisms

I enjoyed the story but found too many Americanisms in what is supposed to be book set on 19th century England ,having checked the meaning the some of some words I found that they were chiefly used in North America .May I suggest the author writes in the Queens English and not use American slang.

A great concept but tiring heroine

In truth, I was hoping for more, given the ratings and reviews I had seen, but to be honest, I found it an exhausting read and upon reflection, this also applies to other books by this author.

The heroine in this story, like others, was exhausting. This was was both unfailingly clumsy (which stopped being funny very quickly and became plain tedious), but she also seemed far far too hyper for a woman of that era.

The story concept was excellent. It's the storytelling that wore me out. For me, a good story is one that I begin and finish in one sitting because I can't put it down. But with this author, I find I have to stop reading before I am halfway through because I am too worn out.

The hero was excellent, and his aunt was truly magnificent. The heroine's siblings were wonderful; and the cat utterly delightful. Even the minor characters who came into the story towards the end of the book were engaging and credible.

But the heroine frankly let the story down for me - and that was long before she threw her childish tantrums when she finds out the hero's true identity.

The other thing that niggled at me is that the fat, aging, mean squire who was the heroine's only hope when the story opens never actually appears in the story, so the tension in the story was diminished.

The author is a talented writer, make no mistake - but I would like her heroine's far more if their rather extreme hyperactive or incessantly eccentric prsonalities were toned down a bit so that they were more aligned to the timeperiod.

Oh dear, this was one of the least favourite of Ms Quinn's novels. Most HEA romance novels have a similar thread and this is no different, except that it was very predictable from the first. Then came Elizabeth, all I will say is she was a hypocrite and surely the saying 'Pride goeth before a fall'. I was so annoyed by this shallow and two faced female. Also I was surprised by the use of modern 'talk' Save it!!! Plus these earlier books could do with a good editor. And would someone please tell me why the words through comes out as though and tilted becomes titled in nearly every kindle book I have read and there are more, but wont bore you.

I am a recent reader of Julia Quinn books and I have to commend her on her sense of humour. However I did not love this book. It was average. If you looking for a light read go ahead read this book but this author has other books which are really interesting..
