Funny and sweet! Much better than the first one in this series. Marriage of convenience plot at it's best!

4.0 out of 5 stars A marriage of convenience
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 28 November 2021

This is the second in the London series but both books stand alone. In this book, an Earl literally falls at the feet of Elinor Lyndon and proposes marriage the same day. He is proposing a marriage of convenience so he can keep his inheritance if he is married by his 30th birthday. Ellie has reasons of her own for agreeing to this but they both have very hot tempers! Ellie struggles in her role as countess and believes she is being sabotaged but no one believes her. Later on, things rake a more sinister turn.

I really enjoyed it but was obviously in the mood for it. Ellie and Charles make constant threats to kill each other, strangle each other etc etc but it is all in good humor and we know isn't serious. The path to true love does not run smoothly at all for these two... but I liked them both a lot. This is a very light read and not to be taken seriously if you want to enjoy it!

This is the second book in the Lyndon Sisters duet and in this one Eleanor takes centre stage.

She is out for a walk when Charles, Earl of Billington falls into her life. He falls out of a tree, lands on her and soon has a surprising proposal for her. He must find a wife and Eleanor, known more as Ellie, needs to escape her stepmother.
Their marriage is one of convenience only. Ellie is too strong and smart to fall for a man like Charles. But he has decided he will make her like him.

I really enjoyed the first book but honestly I think I prefer this one. I like how strong willed Ellie is, and the sparring between her and Charles is so fun to read.
The other characters in this book are a great mix and I loved reading the interactions Ellie has with them as she tries to navigate life as the new Countess.

There is a steamy scene or two but I'm sure most romance readers will be fine with that.

This can be read without reading Everything and the Moon, as Ellie is a smaller character in that and its in this story that we really get to know her properly.

I've throughly enjoyed both books in this duet, and I hope one day the author decides to revisit the lives of Ellie and Charles, and Victoria and Robert.

4.0 out of 5 stars BRIGHTER THAN THE SUN by Julia Quinn (Lyndon Sisters Book #2)
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on 24 September 2021

BRIGHTER THAN THE SUN is another oldie but goodie by JQ and was a re-read for me. It was originally published in 1997 and is the second of a two book series about the Lyndon Sisters. This is Eleanor's story and even though it didn't pull at my heartstrings like its predecessor, EVERYTHING AND THE MOON, I still really enjoyed it.

I completely adored both Charles and Ellie too and thought they made a wonderful couple. Their story literally had me laughing from the start and and even all the mishaps these two encounter didn't detract from that humor. Quinn's customary charm and wit were definitely on display here as well.

I did find it somewhat predictable however since many of the twists I'd already figured out beforehand. But regardless of that it was still without question a delightfully fun, romantic, and thoroughly engaging story. And even though it's not a favorite of mine, I'm glad I read it again nonetheless and would definitely recommend it too 😊

5.0 out of 5 stars Quirky and funny! Different from the usual Julia Quinn

Different than other books by Julia Quinn in my opinion. I had to constantly remind myself that she was the author. None the less, I enjoyed it. Both the Hero and then Heroine are very emotional. It took a bit to get used to the overdramatic relationship they shared, but it worked. Good job Julia!
