To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
Quite literally, every page is a full color photograph. So many beautiful rooms. Full of design ideas, although not always in their respective chapters.... For instance, outside of "Color" section, one may see an incredible paint color in "Whimsy." Several pics of "Accessories," "Arrangement" and "Mix" are in interchangeable categories. Susanna Salk's chapter on "Balance" relies too much on symmetry and pairs, to the exclusion of asymmetrical balance, which is actually trickier to achieve. I would have liked a chapter on "pared down," (more examples with reduced clutter.) One thing that limits the layman from being their "own decorator" is access to sources available exclusively to the pros. Still, for a survey of beautiful rooms by a cross-section of influential designers, "Be Your Own Decorator" is an inspiring way to open one's eyes to design possibilities and solutions. Yes, I would buy this book again.
I really love the images in the book - gorgeous photographs and full pages. However, I returned the book because (like other reviewers) the typography was SO small and in a color on many pages, making it almost impossible to read. Making this a nice picture book. I wish the art direction were a little better on the book, I so wanted to love this.
