To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
My kids love these books! a friend told me about them for her son who wasn’t a big reader. my almost 9-year-old son read the first one in two days, the second one is done and I’ve ordered a third! There are a lot of pics so easy read big also has a lot of factual info which is great! My almost 6yr old son like it for his bedtime story:)
These Mac B books are amusing. After reading them myself, I bought the first 2 books for my 8 year old nephew. They have subtle humor and bits of history about England. The artwork is simple yet hilarious. I love the facial expressions. If you have a reader who is reading chapter books, this is a nice transition to bigger words. There are still plenty of graphics to keep their attention and the words are a “good challenge” if that makes sense.
Bravo!!! Can I just say 100% 5 stars! My 9 year old loves to read and he checked out book 1 from his school library and read in 2 days. Book 2 was not available so I ordered it for him and again in two days he was done. His teacher and the librarian continued to deliver each book after that to him because they knew he was loving the series. He said I quote “ the greatest thing happened today at school mom” referring to getting the next book outside of library day. I just pre ordered the 6th book for its June release and then he will donate it to the library at his school! My parents and I lived in Prague for 2 years when the Berlin Wall came down so I’m always sharing the stories with him and so these books have many familiar and wonder places in them. Thank you to the author Mac Barnett for bringing the stories of adventure and mystery to my sons life.
We had our 2nd grader read this to us -- the plot line is pretty entertaining for this series (even for adults), and it was a great book to bond with our child over. There are lots of great discussion points (historical figures, places, etc) and "stretch" vocabulary for more advanced readers. Our son really enjoyed this one and was able to read it out loud (to my husband and I) over about 1.5hrs. Definitely recommend.
I read this with my kids (we take turns with chapters). They have learned a bit of 80s history which is hilarious to hear them reference it or catch a reference in real life. They can tell you about the Icelandic flag, Beefeaters and the KGB. I hope this author writes more books!
