My 6 year old Daughter chose this book off a year 2 recommended reading sheet. My son reads ‘dog man’ which is a comic style book and my daughter wanted something similar but girlie. This is definitely a good alternative. Cute drawings but simple. She read it twice with me. A good non-threatening start for in-confident young readers. There a few ‘tricky words’ in there but my daughter soon got the hang of them after repetition.
It's been my kid's bedtime story every day for the last 2 weeks! Very nice drawings, funny story, simple yet entertaining. Lots of children read it in our house and every single one loved it that is why I am recommending it. It encouraged my child to create her own comic books. She's obsessed with narwhals now (which makes a nice break from Lego).
This will take a confident 6 year old about 6-7 minutes to read. That's not the books fault but it hurts to spend this amount of money on that amount of content. My son certainly enjoyd it but I think I was hoping for more. Maybe my bad but... next time he can by it from his money :)
I was challenged by a group of children at school to find a book that met all their interests, so with, mermaids, dinosaur and unicorn among the topic, this book seemed a good choice. We all enjoyed it and it now resides in our school library for others to enjoy.
My daughter thinks this book is hilarious. I wasn't sure whether she would follow a 'comic style' text, but it's really clear and very easy to follow. The book really appeals to children and made my daughter laugh a lot. She has really enjoyed this book, and has read it many times now.
