A great book for a science loving mid teen

I gifted this book to my 14 year old nephew on his upanayana ceremony and he absolutely loves it. I think he was jumping with joy as he and his mother called me to thank for the gift.I might have just become his favorite uncle now for a few weeks :)
This book didn't have a preview so I got it delivered to my address to check it before sending it out. It is marked as 5 year and above, so I was a bit apprehensive about this being a glorified picture book masquerading as a science book. But boy was I wrong. It is basically a book that tries to explain the various concepts and ideas in science, which goes beyond the big three - physics, chemistry and biology. The book is divided into many sections (sorry I don't remember them) based on a theme. It starts off with the usual primary school level Archimedes and co stuff and gradually ramps up to advanced level of Einstein and co, but without being scary. Every concept is about a page and has a good amount of historical perspective. At the end there is a descent glossary of scientific terms and list of scientists with small bio. The book is colorful but not gaudy. I bought the hard bound copy which just adds to the charm.
The book seems really interesting. In fact, I being a 35+ man was tempted to keep it for myself, but I am glad that sanity prevailed! There was also nothing quite new for me in there. Granted, I only glanced the book for a few minutes but I can safely say that this is a good book to have for any science enthusiast. It makes an even better gift to precocious 14 year olds who love science as this expands their horizons beyond what their curriculum could muster. Its a book that will last for 3 to 5 years depending on the maturity of the reader.
[The only minus point I like to mention concerns not the book itself but Amazon, so I won't cut a star. On June 20th when I ordered it, I payed close to a thousand rupees including delivery charges. But now, just two week later, it is available for a mere 650 odd rupees with free delivery. Not sure if Amazon is at fault for bad recommendation or the price dropped sharply, but nonetheless a point to bear in mind.]
