How are ratings calculated?
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very male oriented and the drawings aren't that good either

It's an okayish guide and there is some good advice in here, but I'd rather recommend Bridgman's Guide. Jeff Mellem is obviously a pretty mediocre artist and I don't know how much you can actually learn from him. Good for total beginners, I guess.

2.0 out of 5 stars More confusing than helpful

I’m a self-taught intermediate artist, I’ve been drawing for over a decade but I need help with proper anatomy and proportions. I had high hopes for the first few pages but quickly got confused. You aren’t actually taught “step by step”, rather, piece by piece but your never shown at any part how to put the pieces together. At first it’s stick figures, which is great, then he shows overly-fluid gesture drawings, then confoundingly geometric figures. It’s quite stylized geometrically in fact, like nothing I’ve ever seen in a tutorial, which should be utterly simplified, not stylized. I’m not actually sure what the point of the gesture drawing was, it goes from gesture drawing to drawing a geometric “skeleton” but it’s never explained how to flesh out your initial simple sketches. There is also a VERY heavy emphasis on the male form, in fact outside of one small section dedicated to malformed breasts there isn’t any emphasis on the female form. There are drawings of male arms, torsos, faces, male reference photos, even a visual index at the back with the labeled male form. No such section for the feminine. I do indeed need help with male anatomy, and I give this book 2 stars for that, but not a soul is going to lean a thing about the female body from this.

Most of this book should be titled " How to design robots" There are a very few pages of natural drawings of real people and very few female poses. The cover was very deceptive.

I’m disappointed. The figures are quite awkward. I will probably return it.

Not good for beginners and it doesn't help you to understand anatomy. I appreciate the hard work put into it however
