I was so excited to get this book to read aloud to my students while they're home. The illustrations are beautiful and there are some good messages: be grateful for what you have, while you may not get what you wanted..there's beauty in exploring something new. This book shows how the little girl gets her lemon tree unexpectedly from her grandma and takes care of it. However, I found it very boring. There are only a few words on each page and it left me as a teacher saying "That's it?" While you can use this book to convey important messages to your students, I wouldn't recommend it.
It's a wonderful story about learning to appreciate things about which you know very little. However, it works best with a child looking at the pages while you read together so they can see the dialog. When reading it to a group, I had to add text to what was on the page for the story to flow.
