5.0 out of 5 starsTruly a Gem

Walter Isaacson's exceptional intelligence evokes in an organized and simple way with this masterpiece.
This book is the monumental tribute to one of the greatest geniuses ever lived: Leonardo Da Vinci, who was not merely extraordinarily smart, but also an acute observer, voraciously curious, and ingeniously creative human.

After reading the spell-binding plot of Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown, I was fascinated by Leonardo and eager to read more about him. I purchased a hardcover version of Leonardo Da Vinci, The Biography by Walter Isaacson, the most prominent biographer, who has written several masterpieces including, my favorite, Steve Jobs. After completing this book, I am overwhelmed by how special he was.

The author has intelligently organized the whole life of Leonardo in 32 chapters, illustrated with full-color photographs of paintings, sketches, and diagrams from his notebooks.

Leonardo was truly one-of-a-kind. His curiosity impelled him to become among the handful of people in history who tried to know all there was to know and to know about everything that could be known. Just as an example, he put" Describe the tongue of the woodpecker " on one of his oddly inspiring to-do lists.

I'll eminently recommend this book to everyone because one can learn life-changing lessons from the life of a genius, yet also a human who did mistakes. Leonardo set an example of how acute observations, fanatic curiosity, willingness to question dogma, and ability to discern patterns across disciplines can lead to a great leap in human understanding.

Aah! The Mona Lisa is on page 476.

Rating is de facto 5/5⭐️.

5.0 out of 5 stars Master work by Walter Isaacson...Must have book in your personal collection

This is fantastic book written by Isaacson on Da Vinci. Very inspiring if you are interested in life long learning, curiosity, innovation. Not only this book gives an entertaining account of Da Vinci's life bit also sheds light on his work ethics, methods used by him while learning many things. He was true polymath in renaissance era. He had genius level mastery in engineering, arts and literature. He left thousands of pages of his notebooks that he used to always used to carry with him and copiously write into. And he has written extensively on his interests and his methods as he was big fan of daily To Do lists.
The book also gives account of his personal life. The real beauty of this book is all those color photographs of various renaissance era art like paintings and statues. The author also 'explains' these art works done by da Vinci and other contemporary artists. Isaacson also gives us context and background for each art work and tells us subtle nuances that differentiates that art work. Consider it as a quick and easy art appreciation course. The book is hard cover and printed on thick, good quality paper. In one of his interview the author tells us why he insisted on high quality printing. He said while writing book on Jobs they could not find many of his past emails written in 1990s. On the other hand Da Vinci has left some much of his writing behind and that is accessible even after 500 years because it is on the paper. He says he became believer in old technology like paper. I suggest the same to you. Do not buy kindle version. Buy paper copy for your collection. You will enjoy it more.
Anyway all these these color pictures on nice thick paper and their explanation by the author takes this book to different league altogether. This alone will ensure a permanent place for this book in your personal library.
I can strongly recommend this book to the students, artists, entrepreneurs, researchers, scientists and life long learners. They will get a lot out of this brilliant book. Parents should encourage their college going kids to read this book.

Well-paced comprehensive biography that is pleasure to read and will definitely ignite curiosity.
I read it on my Kindle with viewing his paintings on a computer. Such an exciting experience. However, Without a doubt buy a hardcopy !!

My favorite quotes from the book,
"Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication"
“He never finished any of the works he began because, so sublime was his idea of art, he saw faults even in the things that to others seemed miracles.”
"Talent hits a target that no one else can hit," wrote the German philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer. "Genius hits a target no one else can see."

A brilliant biography by one of the foremost biographers of our times Walter Isaacson. He has penned the most readable works of this genre including Steve Jobs and Ada Lovelace ( the only legitimate daughter of Lord Byron and one of the innovators of the computer age). The personality and genius covered in this work, da Vinci ‘Infinitely curious, easily distracted, vain and vegetarian’ as stated by Sunday Times, is one of the greatest innovators of our times. Apart from being the greatest artist, there were path-breaking contributions to fields such as astronomy, illumination, weaponry, hydraulics, dentistry, anatomy among other fields. His paintings alas, only a few completed. The tome covers a varied life of the genius and his times with brilliant and rare illustrations. The story of La Bella Principessa and the “intense human and scientific drama surrounding attempts to authenticate the picture, and to debunk it, helps us better understand what makes something an autograph Leonardo.” This book does it....

Leonardo da Vinci , prominent figure of the age of Renaissance. Walter Isaac son had already proved his mettle when he deals with biographies, he always try to give the detail of various aspect of person’s life. Sometimes it is burdensome but very important to know those who left great legacy for the world. When you will join small pieces of their life , you come to know that even a small incident carved their life. Amazing simply.....

This is book is nothing but 650 pages of wonderful inspiration. Leonardo DaVinci is one a kind and after reading this book I don’t think anyone like him has walked the earth yet. The book touches upon all the important events in his life and also on the things which only DaVinci found important like "describe the tongue of a woodpecker", I mean seriously who even thinsk about this. After completing this book i realised that leonardo was now a painter but he was a student fo life and he was always curious to learn more. The qualities this man had are of an engineer, architect, anatomist and a painter to name a few.

5.0 out of 5 stars Life Story Of “Renaissance man.” Narrated By The Master Biographer.

Leonardo Da Vinci needs no introduction. An exceptionally curious and intelligent person, an inventor, engineer and a painter par excellence - all rolled into a single persona. In this highly interesting and remarkable biographical work, master biographer Walter Isaacson has tried to explore and analyze various known and unknown aspects of the extraordinary life and personality of Leonardo Da Vinci. His research, presentation and narration are outstanding - and quite entertaining too. Isaacson demystifies a highly complex individual and his eventful life with notable simplicity, ease and intelligence.

This hardcover edition of the book is printed & produced in Italy - and in itself is a work of art. Superior production and print quality makes going through the book a pleasant experience. Many paintings, sketches and photographs are incorporated on the pages of this remarkable biography by an equally remarkable author.

A very highly recommended book to all the admirers and enthusiasts of Fine Arts & Science.

5.0 out of 5 stars I would not hesitate to recommend the book to anyone interested in Da Vinci

Walter Isaacson is a renowned biographer who has taken on a variety of subjects ranging from Benjamin Franklin to Einstein to Steve Jobs. This biography of Da Vinci is top-notch. Very well structured and written, and gorgeously produced with high quality illustrations. The book is a pleasure to read. The “content” and the “form” come together to provide an intellectually stimulating and aesthetically uplifting experience. I would not hesitate to recommend the book to anyone interested in Da Vinci, or broadly speaking, to anyone interested in art, science and / or history. Like Da Vinci himself, the book defies easy categorisation and therein lies its appeal. I must however say that the copy I received had a binding problem and the pages are only loosely attached to the spine. I hope this is an aberration.
