I don't have words to describe just how much I enjoyed this book. It's been ages since I read such an awesome YA fantasy book. I had lost all faith and interest in YA fantasy early this year because whichever book I picked up it was similar to the previous one I read and that frustrated me to no end. The synopsis of this book hooked me right from the start and I finished this book in 2 days only!
Loved the characters but mostly I loved Katherine through out the story but the end made me love Arsinoe much more (those of you readers who read this till the end know what I mean!). To be brutally honest I didn't like Mirabella much. On the other hand I loved Natalia's character a lot too and Jules as well.
Loved the plot and the shocking ending sealed the deal for me. The pacing was great though at places I thought the story would loose my interest but this awesome story line just kept gut punching me.
The romance is subtle and does not takeover the whole plot and we get to see how the lives of these three queens change once they turn 16. The story reminded me a lot of the hunger games and the way people enjoyed the fight between the contenders, it was the same here as the common folks rooted for the most powerful queen.
So excited to see what happens in the next installment. Hope this series never end.
It took me almost a month to finish TDC(mostly because of college) but it was worth it. I loved it. It wasn't as dark as I was expecting(which is too much, I guess) but it was pretty dark. Jo likes that.
Initially I felt a tad bit confused with three narratives and tons of characters in every one, but I soon picked up. It had alternative POVs something I hate(reason why I didn't like 5th wave) but maybe because I was busy in college and read small portions every day or something, I adapted well to it.(sorry 5th wave).
I liked all the queens. All of them had a distinctive personalities and I could clearly differentiate them. Only character I hated with passion was Joseph. Go and jump off some cliff.
Writing wise, it was ok. A bit dry in my opinion, but otherwise interesting and engaging.
AND the last 3/4th of book was bloody marvellous. It was so full of twists and surprises and betrayal. And the end was so soul satisfying. I'm getting my copy of 'One dark throne' as soon as it comes out!
I want revenge." She whispers, and her fingers trail bloody streaks down Natalia's arms. "And then I want my crown.
Even with a slow start, this book captures readers' interest till the end. Being the first book in the series there wasn't much darkness but it does have enough content to keep you going. Second part of the book is where you totally get into the book and not to forget the breathtaking ending. Even though this book doesn't exactly end, with what I would say a cliffhanger, but few informations revealed makes you wanna take up the next book immediately. This book has done a wonderful job of setting up the stage for the series.
This book started real slow!! until halfway through it, I was not sure how I was gonna like it.. but the second half was so intriguing.. it's such a dark fantasy and I was not prepared for that ending!!!
This book is sooo great and it'll keep you hooked. The author has created a very awesome world and done justice to all her characters. If you don't end up craving the second book after finishing this one.. then there's something extremely wrong with you.
