I had first read about Theranos in the New Yorker article which the author refers to several times. And i was deeply impressed by Elizabeth. However this book goes to show to what extent wrong and hideous things were done by Elizabeth and Sunny Balwani.
However I must say that the author is too harsh on Elizabeth and wrongfully so. She using deep voice is not okay with him. Why not? That's what people want in their leaders. Why not? What's wrong in that. He calls her almost a psychopath. He puts her down on every single attribute. It seems that because he was hounded by the legal team of Theranos, he took a full revenge on her through this book.
Gives an honest account about how simple ideas and can turn into a good business plans because of strong conviction , individual charisma and connections. It exposes the bad decisions taken by founders in their quest to achieve success at any cost.It highlights the impact of repeated lies, deceit and coverups to play the valuation games. Lastly reinforces the value of ethics and the need to do the business right way.. very relevant.
Tech startups are often so hyped up that people are made to believe they are valued way above what they actually are. Bad Blood is a classical case of how image can be hyped up and names can be used to raise funding and when reality catches up everything blows up in thin air... Good read..
This is a no - fiction but reads like a superb drama as it folds the mystery and mastery of Holmes. The beautiful game she played with people, their trust and the money. Lots to learn. A wonderful read.
