Arrived in great condition on time. A brilliant book, especially for Hamilton: An American Musical fans. Also great if you enjoy historical romance. Would definitely recommend and I eagerly await the second one.

My grand-daughter was very keen to read an advance copy of this, as she is a fan of Hamilton the Musical – she knows all the words to all the songs, and evidence to date tends to support this. There appears to be a cult among teenagers in this country around this musical, which is rather odd for something you can’t yet see here on stage or DVD.
Although the book wasn’t quite what she was expecting it to be, my grand-daughter loved it.
“The musical, as far as I can tell from the soundtrack, is mainly from Alex’s viewpoint, and a lot of it is about his role in the War of Independence and the rest of his life. The book, however, is more about the love story of Alex and Eliza, and is written more from Eliza’s viewpoint. I thought the characterisation was very good, in two ways. Firstly, it shows how the love between Alex and Eliza, two people from very different backgrounds (she a General’s daughter, he an illegitimate orphan) develops – until their relationship gets serious, he is very tense and awkward around her. I also liked the interaction between Eliza and her sisters, three different personalities who fit well together and support each other. In case this sounds like a sentimental book, it isn’t. It doesn’t pull any punches about Alex’s bleak origins, and the love story of Alex and Eliza is not without real problems! You also get to see how Alex develops as a person through his sheer effort and determination. If you’re a Hamilton fan like me, and you can’t wait until the Musical comes to the UK this autumn – or even if you’re lucky enough to have a ticket already – buy this book, you won’t be disappointed.”
If you're a fan of Hamilton the musical, you'll love this. It's young fiction story. It's not Pride and Prejudice but reminiscent of it. It written in an historical way. If you're looking for an enjoyable, not-too-deep romance with a bit of history fiction in the mix, it's one to consider.
I enjoyed this novel very much. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect never having seen Hamilton and knowing it was De La Cruz’s initial inspiration for the book. However, I’m familiar with the music and plot of the musical which helped keep the novel in perspective. The YA spin on the story worked perfectly; basing the novel on Alex and Eliza’s early romance made them perfect subjects for a YA story. The author did well to blend historical information, character development, and plenty of humor into her story. Overall, I would highly recommend this book to readers of YA, historical fiction, and fans of Hamilton and Melissa De La Cruz.
