such a fun book!!! :) :) baby and i love stories by Julia Donaldson. They are usually great, just the right length for before baby gets distracted, and are always very well illustrated. The paper quality is good too, and holds up the baby's smacks when he gets excited about the story. i love the big size, since it helps better envelope baby in the story. overall we've enjoyed reading this book.
As with her other books, this one is also a fav for my kid for the simple rhymes and concept. At times the water in the bath is sipped, sprinkled, poured out, drained....( learnings also from a story 😃) .The illustrations are great. And my toddler always joins in chanting the words. I liked it.
We love Julia Donaldson's books but found that this one didn't quite hit the mark here. It's beautifully illustrated by David Roberts but we just found that the story lacked a little of the engagement that we usually feel from Julia Donaldson.
The story tells the tale of three bath toys who pilot their flying bath around the world helping animals who need water when the people in their house are out during the day. It's a great idea and allowed us to discuss the many uses of water, but it hasn't really gripped my 3 and 6 year old. Usually when we get a new Julia Donaldson book, we have to reread every day for a while but this one hasn't been asked for in the same way.
It's by no means a bad book, at all. It just hasn''t engaged us as Julia Donaldson usually does. If I could score 3.5 I would!
I bought this originally because it was a Julia Donaldson and we have most of her books and my kids love them. When we first read it I was not that impressed it was very basic and the plot is only so so. However after reading it a few times my kids suddenly really took to it and love the bath rhyme and always join in with the "wings out and off we fly, the flying bath is in the sky". I would say give this book a go as it does grow on you. I would say though this is more suitable for a younger reader. My kids are 2 and 4 and my 2 year old thiks this is a great book. My 4 year old is probably a bit too old for this but plays along with her sister. I would say sort of 1.5-3 age range maximum.
