To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
I expected the author to be an authoriative source of truth in Jaimini astrology. But instead it sounded like he is doing an uncertain discussion in the book. The theories given retrofits correctly for a few celebrity horoscopes. not sure if it was validated in a large sample of horoscopes
Very detailed, advanced excellent book...must know rudimentary Parashara astrology, meaning of houses, grahas, rasi charts and divisional charts, this is one level up in simplifying the calculation for making useful prediction. Very useful no doubt if your foundation is strong.
I really like the way the book introduces reader to Jaimini astrology. It is easy to understand. I wish it included more in-depth information. Vedic astrology is a very sophisticated subject and there are much to learn.
I've just spent several enjoyable, enlightening hours making an initial survey run through this book that's hot off the presses this week.
Marc writes with an engaging, authoritative (20+ years in Jyotish/Vedic + more in Western astrology), yet 'relaxed' style that feels as though I'm having a conversation in the same room with him.
There are heaps of examples in every chapter - and they're illustrated using both North & South Indian style charts.
As a long-time student of the highly respected Indian teacher-researcher K.N. Rao, Marc presents this book exactly as it's titled -- practical, experimentally researched and proven, USABLE Jaimini techniques that relate through all the 'houses' of life.
Students and practitioners of Jyotish know that our foundation lies in Parashara, and yet we look forward to demonstrating ever more skillful means with the penetrating, highly accurate, oft-times 'miraculous' predictive tools of the great sage Jaimini.
Thanks Marc - for your years of dedicated study, devotion, and practice, and for this gift that will help grow the next generation of Jyotishis everywhere.
I learned the basics and fundamentals of Jaimini reading this book. As Mark Boney clearly points out, If you already know and practice another Vedic system like Parashara, the Jaimini system can be a great addition to be used alongside your main system to get further probability in your prediction in being correct. Mark points out that having confluence and similarity in more than one system increases your chances of being correct in your astrological prediction. Jamini is a great ancillary system to be used for validation and verification of the Parashara system.
I can see my own Parashara charts more clearly using Jamini sign aspects and Jamini karakas. The sign dasha systems of Jamini give me a clearer picture of my Parashara vimshottari dashas and cleared my confusions I had previously on my vimshottari dashas and antardasha effects since I am now using an additional ancillary system of Jamini. The translation of a portion of chapter 1 of the Jamini sutra I felt was a little redundant at end of the book as Mark had already gone over the same concepts in the beginning of the book. I wish instead Mark had gone into more detail on effects of planets from the karakamsha lagna and the effects of planets from the arrudha lagna. There were only a couple of items mentioned in the book and it would have been helpful to go into more detail on more planets from these lagnas and their effects to peruse my own karakamsha and arrudha lagnas.
You could tell this book is a group of articles parsed together to form a book. There were a few negligible errors of missing charts and planetary references in the book but nothing major to be an influence to the work. The caveat is this book is $32 and when I pay that amount for a book I just expect it to be edited and to be more clear and scrutable. The other caveat is if you are going to buy this book you have to have a basic understanding of Vedic astrology, specifically the Parashara system. This means you should know basics on planets, houses, yogas, signs, aspects,...etc before attempting to read and learn the Jamini system from this book.
