So I have read 'The Places That Scare You' by the same author and I really liked it. This seemed like a shortened version of the same concepts- How to notice and sit with difficult emotions without trying to deny them or act them out. Also, the other book seems to be really big on mentioning Buddhist concepts, this book is more of a general one, though there are a few mentions. It is a very very short book- less than 100 pages and could be read in a single sitting. Also, the structure and layout of the book is very easy to understand. I recommend you begin by this book if you have never read any other Pema Chodron books or watched her videos. If you have, then it can be passed.
[I bought a paperback copy for Rs.198. The paper quality is okay, the pages are yellowed and seemed like an old copy. The binding is alright]
I finished the book when i am at the low of my life till now in my 26 years of living. Provided the much needed perspective on life and existence. You might not take the leap of faith with this one book but you will definitely feel the change in you and attracted towards buddhism. To say in other words , you may be content even if you do not take the leap of faith and will be happy just to observe yourself ,your surrounding and your life in a third person's eyes.
A thought provoking, inspiring and reassuringly open and honest voice comes from Pema Chödrön. Her thoughts and observations are expressed with a beautiful simplicity below which lies a profundity about our lives that touches one deeply and opens one's eyes. Thank you, Pema for sharing your journey.
