This story attracted me from the start. A human surrounded by lots of aliens, yeah, thats my favourite type of book. The characters in this story are fun to read about and really come across as alive as possible. Wil Calder is a funny character, who uses references only another human would understand. He's just all round fun to read and get to know. Bennie is almost dispicable and yet, I really loved his little personality quirks the most out of the whole crew of Ghost. Adding a sentient robot was a good idea. Gabe is a brilliant engineer and also has a great rapport with the other crew members.
This book is a must read for space opera fans. It's fun, witty, full of action and drama, lies, and deceit. It's also very well written and very enjoyable reading. You won't be disappointed if you get this book. It's a really exciting, fast paced, humourous read. What more could you want?!
Will Calder finds himself stranded outside of the solar system after an FTL flight. Initially taken in by another crew, he finds himself alone in the ship after a double-cross. After a while he "rescues"two peacekeepers from a ship and is joined by another alien and a workbot. Life just gets more interesting as the crew attempt to do the right thing. An excellent book for anyone who loves space and adventures
great book, love all the characters, there are sims to Farscape, but I loved Farscape. there are references to lots of sci fi, but I love good Sci Fi. its fast paced the story keeps going without all the BLAH, BLAH, BLAH. Now!! I am reading all of these books, look out for my reviews of the others, there is a surprise that you will be interested in.
I wasn't sure whether I would enjoy this book, but I did. In fact I purchased the follow up books 2-4 and pre-ordered the 5th. It was easy to read and I got quite involved with the characters, which led to getting the others in the series which I also expect to enjoy.
The only thing that jarred was that Calder was a human, unknown to most races, yet they accepted days, weeks, months (derived from Earth's rotation around its sun) as nornal description of time. The crew also used 'day' and 'night' whilst in deep space, where those anomalies do not exist. Just a petty observation. The book was better than most.
Epic Adventures indeed, lots of action, incredible situations and unbelievable luck as our heroes storm through the galaxy defying peacekeepers and spreading truth and good will........you get the picture? 10/10
Generic and copied too much from Farscape and Guardians of the Galaxy. Dialogue was clunky, characters one dimensional; a quiet strong guy, a kick ass woman. But they don’t have any personalities beyond that.
5.0 out of 5 starsI will write a review for this book, the first, this is the sort of story that I like to read. Plenty of dialogue, fast moving, uncomplicated and not filled with over discritive scenes, just to get the word count up. I couldn't put this book down, but had too, as I had other jobs to do. If the rest of his books are written in the same theme, then write on. It seems that I have to put in a word count before amason will except this review, this is probably the reason why I'm reluctant to write about the books that I have read, being a man of few words
