I have the first book which is great but this one makes me so mad! It’s a plot to get you to buy the online courses I’m sure. The projects are:
- blackberry - sunflower head only - a unlifelike bluetit - one autumn leaf
All the art I actually wanted to try that are in the book like the bee, the swans in the back, hollyhock and foxgloves are all in pictures half finished or finished teasing you at the things I actually want to learn.
And a large area on teaching you about gardening, taking pictures and her students work (yes another plug at the website)
14 photographs of the author 10 of these full page & sometimes more. For those who purchased Anna Mason's first book, which was very instructive, this strange editorial decision will disappoint. The authors mugshot on the dust jacket will suffice. More text-less repetitive pics of the author in her garden in various poses ,14!
What a lovely books this is. I only received it earlier today and already know it's going to be a great book. It is full of absolutely beautiful illustrations with pages of step by step detail and images to trace at the back. As well as lots of flowers and fruit there are also illustrations and instruction on drawing a bird and a lovely illustration of a harvest mouse in grass which I'll have a go at. Many aspects are covered, such as texture, stippling shadow work and great attention to tones which I always find quite difficult. Highly recommended.
Anna Mason is an excellent artist and she excels at flowers, birds etc. The book only contains a few projects/demonstrations. One is a pear - this can be found on youtube. A leaf, a bird. grapes and a sunflower. I was hoping that the book would contains the flowers and more birds - but unfortunately not. Therefore, I found it contained a lot of text found in most other art books. Not really what I was looking for.
Agree with a lot of other comments. If you have not had Anna's other book and you are not enroled in her classes then it is worth it. Otherwise the book is predominantly exercises etc you already have. Shame
First, let me say I have recently signed up for Anna’s online ‘school’. That is how I learned about her art. I think she is a gifted artist and brilliant teacher. In the few weeks since I signed up, my art has improved greatly. But about this book..... it’s true that there aren’t many actual projects, as some reviewers have complained. But the projects included have extremely in-depth tutorials, designed for the reader to learn Anna’s method. Once you learn the method, you can apply it to try the many gorgeous pictures of Anna’s work in this book. I think the book Is gorgeous, and very inspiring. I think if you do the projects in this book, you’d surely have acquired the skill to try other more difficult paintings. For £13 this book is a good buy.
