🦒This book is the first I have read from this author. Picked it up online because of the cover and the name. When the book arrived, we (my daughter and I) opened it and were like wow – before even reading the book the illustration took our breath away. It’s colourful, intriguing, catchy, appealing at the same time.
And as anyone would guess, we sat down to read it at once.
🦒It is a beautiful book on self-acceptance and that everyone is special and different. What you need to do is to find your song.
🦒It is a story of a Giraffe named Gerald, who is unable to waltz, tango, hip hop, or cha-cha like the other animals in the jungle on a Jungle dance day. The others knowing that he can’t dance makes fun of him, making him feel useless and sad.
🦒Unhappy, he leaves the dance and ventures towards a clearing in the jungle to look at the moon.
Where a cricket sees him and talks to him, making him realise that it’s not that he can’t dance, it’s just that he needs to find his song.
And then he finds his song and starts dancing to it. In the process, he realises that he isn’t useless, he is just different.
🦒The other point that I loved about this story is that I got to explain to my daughter the different forms of dances mentioned in the book.
🦒Overall, the book conveys a beautiful beautiful message to our young readers and even the parents, who are trying hard to make the kids fit in this competitive world i.e. let them find their song and sky would be their limit.
🦒My take. It’s a must-have for your kid’s collection.
🦒My personal favourite quote from the book –
“But sometimes when you're different
You just need a different song.”
