Imagine your mind as a garden. You can observe it, pull weeds and plant new flowers. Weeds don’t get pulled out, and flowers don’t get planted simply by watching the garden. Simple but effective Mantra!
Concepts explained in a very clear way and also method of following concept given ,which is very good .i hv read other books on sa,e concepts but the way same concepts hv been explained and ways to adopt them os explained is excellent .overall a very nice book.
Well another book from an amazing man! Just read the book. Rick has distilled his learning and experience to provide us with a recipe for a good and peaceful life. He is the sincerest of people and his life work is both genuine and heartfelt. With his advice I have learnt about forgiveness ( a huge thing!) being grateful for all the small things in life. Judgements fall away as you realise people can only love in as much as their level of consciousness allows. With his help we grow our consciousness and become more loving, understanding and happier. Yes you have work to do but it’s not difficult and I’ve experienced the results and it’s so worth the small efforts each day. My life changed when I came across this man and I hope you read this book and become calmer, more peaceful with yourself and others.
Excellent book full of helpful strategies to help build resilience into everyday life. Easy to read but informative where it needs to be e.g explanations about the brain. What I particularly liked was how it brought together different themes and concepts that I’ve read about in articles and other books such Growth Mindset, Gratitude, building up ones own confidence as well as boosting others around us. Definitely worth buying and I know I will continue to dip back into to it for support.
Rick Hanson is known for his work on increasing happiness, positivity, wellbeing and mindfulness - not flaky but all backed up by psychological and neuroscience research. He also genuinely seems a nice guy who cares about making people happy and acting ethically. This book is particularly useful for giving us a toolkit to improve our wellbeing. One of the best self-help books I've read - and I've read a few!
I’ve only read the first chapter; already know I will benefit from working through this book. I like how Rick Hanson cuts through the science and explains it in a way I can understand. The practices in each chapter make me stop and take action, rather than just reading and pretending I’ve taken it all in!
4.0 out of 5 starsEnjoyed this book, has helped me think about things in a different way. For example thinking of a person's history experiences environment if you feel anger towards them. Also enjoyed the exercises throughout.
Very good book only criticism is some parts felt repetitive but on the whole would definitely recommend. Think this book would be suitable for anyone who feels as though they sometimes allow the stress of external forces get the better of them and are looking for inner peace.
