I ordered this book to try and get my 4 year old to lower her volume. The concept is good and the story has a good message. I find it a bit cumbersome to read. My daughter might be on the young side as the story is geared towards classroom aged children. I think we will read this for years to come though.
We have occasional challenges with inappropriate voice levels for our toddler twins so it was nice to see a book that might potentially help.
Unfortunately the twin that doesn't have this problem likes the book more than the one that does, haha. The book doesn't always 'read' like a story very well, and the concept of 5 different voice volumes is difficult for my toddlers to understand exactly. However, if you tailor the content to your situation and make up your own words to frame it, it's really helpful. We focus on 3 of the 5 voices, and they seem to understand it better.
I got this for my 4 year old son, who talks loud CONSTANTLY. The lesson and story in this book is good, but I was losing him BOUT 3/4 the way through. It's probably better for older kids, but I needed it now. Lol. Reading this still helped though and my son now lowers his voice when I ask him to use his 6 inch voice.
As a teacher, it is great to use to clarify the different levels of voices that we can use, especially at school. Must read a few times for little ones, but it got the point across. There are a couple of pages that were a little "too much" to explain, but overall, it is a nice tie in if you have a volume chart.
The story is great and it went well with a lesson I taught to my students. However, I was a little bent out of shape just like my book was as it was delivered in a soft package which was folded in half and stuffed in my mailbox. The spine was ruined. :-/
