My anime artist younger sister loved it. There is limited availability of anime literature in India, so was welcomed enthusiastically. I was refunded a part of the sum taken for customs (as promised). Negatives - a bit pricey. Also, the price dropped immediately after I bought it.
Christopher Hart is a new name to me, but I suspect that my son and myself will be becoming increasingly familiar with him. I loved cartooning as a young man, and now my child is showing the same interests, some research quickly turned up CH as 'the don' of cartooning instruction. So it has proven. I've bought a few such 'instructional manuals' from a few authors, but none come up to the standard of detail - incredible, microscopic detail - present in Mr Hart's work. Where some manuals will show you how to draw a specific character in a a specific position, Hart takes the time to deal with proportionality, stance, angle, aspect and ratio at a level of detail simply absent from competitor works. I wish Christopher Hart had been my art teacher. Get his books before it's too late!
This book is fantastic for drawing both manga and anime. Excluding the animation bit, it details making characters, including different styles, and helps with all aspects of creating great characters. I have bought many books for this subject in my time, but found this one incredibly helpful.
My 9 year old daughter loves this book and it goes pretty much everywhere with her. She is constantly referring to it and sketching and practicing. Exactly what I wanted to happen an something that, finally, gets her away from the computer / iPad / iPhone. It's a big book and not pocket sized so the illustrations are nice a big and easy to follow. A great book for a budding anime artist!
My daughter is interest in animation and uses the Gatcha Life App. I bought this for her Christmas along with the design your own comic book. This book means she can create anime characters and the book is perfect for step-by-step instructions how to draw a variety of Anime characters.
The book itself is big, sturdy and easy to understand. It isn't the best for people that are just beginning art and more for people that understand the basics and are in the middle of learning art. For those that do understand the basics this book is very helpful to push you to the next level of your drawing. It helped me exceptionally and I feel like my drawing has improved because of it.
