Factually Incorrect ??
Reviewed in India on 26 July 2019
Curious adult who wants to learn about the history of our country in an easy and not so boring manner picks up this book seeing good reviews.
Just a page into reading this book, and i already have doubts about the factuality of the text.
The author states that India was known as Jambudvipa.
I searched about it on the internet, and couldn't find any credible information confirming the above statement.
Instead i found that the whole northern hemisphere was referred to as Jambudvipa in puranic cosmology.
The name Jambudvipa is made from combining two words, jambu(fruit) with dvipa(land, continent).
Also the author states that Jambu means rose apple.
Whereas the jambu which is addressed here is called: blackplum, java plum, or malay plum (courtesy Wikipedia). Botanically known as syzygium cumini, or Jamun as we call it in hindi.
Who called it Jambudvipa?
When was it called as such?
If these questions would have been answered aptly, it would have not only quenched my curiousness, but also would have given much credibility to the statement.
I would have loved it if the author would have cited atleast some references at the end of the book.
Judging the entire book by just reading one page would not be appropriate. After reading the entire book i will update my review.
There are many pictures in the books, the matter seems to be arranged in a lucid way,the writing style is also lucid.
Overall I am looking forward to complete the book at the earliest.
