As others have said, this book is not for self-learning.
The package has 1 text book, 1 workbook and 1 glossary. The text book and workbook each have 2 Audio CDs. So you get 4 CDs in all.
The CDs have dialogs in German that you can listen to. Also, some of the exercises in the workbook refer to the tracks on the CDs. Meaning, you will have to listen to the tracks and answer the questions (for some of the exercises).
There is no proper pronunciation or phonetic guide. Hence, you will find it difficult to learn German on your own using these books/CDs. (By the way, EVERYTHING is in German; there is no English in these books and CDs.) If you are already learning German in a class, you could use these books as supplementary exercises (if they aren't already a part of your syllabus).
The quality of the books is excellent. Glossy paper, coloured pictures, etc. The Audio CDs too are very clear (but all in German). The only reason for giving this 4 stars is because I can't use this for self-learning.
To generalize, this set of books might be a bit tough for complete beginners, otherwise someone taking a class or being familiar with the language can access it because it does not have translation. It is only German scripted nevertheless anyone can muster the efforts to learn A1 level with this set of books. It's got pleasant illustrations too and audio CD's for listening purpose.
The author Frau Stefanie Dengler works with the Goethe Institute. I recommend buying both A1 and A2 complete sets because advanced topics got introduced in the A1 Kursbuch itself! After the completion of your A2 course, allocate at least 2 months of extra time if you plan to appear directly for the A2 exam.
Book is a standard set by Goethe institute to learn German however half of the learning examples in the book seem quite silly. Any one would expect Goethe institute to provide sensible examples. Price of Rs.750 per seemed quite high!
We are doing classes for German Language & my all students are used this book & last year we send 7 students to Germany. They all are studied by this book & still we have so many students they all are using this book & this book is too helpful for A1 Language.
