Alongwith a detailed and simplified methods of all exercises, the book also lays benefits and bewares of contraindications whenever applicable. Also alogside a pictorial illustration is provided to give the reader an idea about the pose.
Much respect to Swami Mukundananda. This book is a wonderful synthesis of major yog schools.
I bought this hardcover book when I was at the Jagadguru Kripalu Yoga & Naturopathy Hospital at Banara, Cuttack, Odisha last year when I was sick. The book is a complete and exhaustive reference manual in terms of all the yogic exercises one can do.
The author starts by explaining the true meaning of yoga, lists warm-up exercises, and then delves into nearly 250 asans, 25 mudras, and 6 cleansing practices (Neti, Dhauti, Basti, Nauli, Kapalbhati, etc). All these are categorized as Standing postures, Sitting postures, Supine postures, etc. making it very easy to jump to the correct page. Each asan is listed with its English and Hindi name e.g. Padmasan (Lotus Pose). With each asan, multiple illustrations are provided so that it is easy to fall into the asan. Beyond this, for each asan, the author has listed the specifc benefits that accrue from doing it. Where relevant, the author also mentions the Contraindications i.e. people who should avoid that specific pose. A detailed index at the back is a quick way to look up a specific asan for any ailment.
As if this was not enough, the author also shares tips on a healthy diet, meditation, and other techniques to stay healthy. I highly recommend every household keep a copy - you simply cannot go wrong with it and will fidn it very handy.
