A book is very informative and gives recipe of what to do to prevent and reverse diabetes. The problem is with book’s binding, printing and font etc couple pages from my book have got loosened and came out of binding within first week of purchase. Better to buy soft copy

wonderful book written by Dr. Jason, one of its kind & an eye opener for all diabetics, including the medical professionals. it tries to explain the basics of diabetes & our understanding of diabetes. it clearly defines what happens to our body in diabetes & how body responds to it, what modern allopathic medicine is aiming at & its consequences. the book gives some ray of hope to people who believe diabetes is a dead end disease & there is no turning back. Highly recommended.

I have no doubt that the information Dr. Fung presents is accurate and lifesaving. I’ve recently competed reading it and I am motivated as I embark on my 2023 journey to combat pre-diabetes, obesity, hypertension and osteoarthritis. Dr. Fung is a proponent of Low Carb/High Fat (LCHF) diets, which are nothing new, so that is not groundbreaking news. Although I read every word, I found his explanations unnecessarily technical, and was anxious to “cut to the chase” and learn how to “prevent and reverse type 2 diabetes naturally” as the book cover touts. Unfortunately, that chapter doesn’t appear in the 265 page book until the very end and is only 44 pages in length. (His Endnotes and Index pages are nearly that long at 41 pages!) I appreciate Fung’s attention to detail and his academic and scientific approach, but I feel it falls slightly short in describing practical application. The biggest takeaway for me, is that in addition to diet, Intermittent Fasting (IF) is the magic bullet for the obesity/diabetes (and comorbidities) dilemma. Yet, very few pages are devoted to IF, and that section is lacking practical application information such as how to break a fast, what to expect, and what happens to the body during an extended fast. I have had to look for this information elsewhere, but would have appreciated Dr. Fung’s expertise on the subject. (So many IF “experts” lack any medical degree or are trying to hawk products, and they each have different philosophies and approaches, making IF feel daunting.) Dr. Fung has written a book about IF, so that’s my next step.

In short, good book, solid science, may be too technical for some, but perfect for the person who wants to understand the whys and what for’s of insulin resistance. Low Carb/High (healthy)Fat clean eating and IF seems to be the prescription here.

UPDATE: It only took two weeks for me to improve my fasting blood glucose from an average of 131 to 88 solely from using the Clean Keto diet and IF. I have lost some weight, as well. My hypertension has not gone down yet, but I am hoping that this will be my prescription for that, too.

First off I love Dr.Fung and I watch all his videos. I was diagnosed with pre diabetes many years ago and that’s how I found Him. I was able to reverse it by fasting. A week ago I was diagnosed with diabetes. Because I’m an emotional person and I use food to cope and always the wrong food. I was in a depressed state for the past few years and when I get in my mood I turn to the worst foods to help me cope. I knew I needed to get back on track and reverse this disease. I know I can do it and it starts with this book.

Ho letto due libri del dott. Jason Fung. Sono due libri molto simili, molte parti in comune, cambiano gli approfondimenti, che rendono il libro più mirato per l'obesità oppure per il diabete. Bibliografia vastissima e dati preziosi. Uno è in italiano: "Codice dimagrimento", l'altro non è tradotto e lo ho comprato dal Kindle store su Amazon, ed è "The diabetes code", quest'ultimo è il più recente e mi sembra il migliore tra i due, per chi capisce l' inglese. Sostanzialmente come dicevo, sono lo stesso libro, quindi basterebbe anche comprarne uno solo, e in questo caso consiglio "The diabetes code", che mi sembra più completo.
Ho trovato il testo leggermente prolisso, forse anche per trovare una collocazione alla vasta bibliografia sulle ricerche che hanno dato origine a questi libri. Si sa che verità poco gradite a un certo establishment, molto legato a vecchie teorie vecchie spesso di lustri, e spesso a posizioni di comodo, devono essere esposte nel dettaglio e in maniera inconfutabile. Diciamo che di due libri se ne poteva ricavare uno con la metà delle pagine, ma va bene anche così. Sostanzialmente, entrambi i libri fanno il punto sul ruolo della iperinsulinemia come causa scatenante di obesità, diabete, e delle numerose patologie e complicazioni che le accompagnano o che comunque insorgono in caso, appunto, di iperinsulinemia.
Il dott. Fung evidenzia la validità di una dieta priva di carboidrati raffinati mentre privilegia quelli sani in grande quantità. Evidenzia anche il ruolo di un eccesso di proteine nella iperinsulinemia e definisce in maniera incontrovertibile l'utilità, o meglio la necessità, dei grassi "buoni", inserendo tra questi anche i grassi saturi, e la dannosità di grassi industriali apparsi solo recentemente nell'alimentazione umana.
Viene poi descritta la pratica del digiuno, di vari tipi, come pratica igienista e valido ausilio per la normalizzazione dei parametri fisiologici.
Per chi tiene alla propria salute e anche per chi ama essere aggiornato, è una lettura che consiglio vivamente!
Darei cinque stelle, ma ne do solo quattro per la prolissità e la ripetitività (non del tutto inutili, comunque), e per il prezzo un poco alto.
