My son started reading this series at 7 years of age and it’s the perfect introduction to chapter books. He gets intimidated by books with no pictures and I get frustrated by graphic novels because there isn’t true sentence structure. I feel like the best foundation to all worldly matters is reading and this is a book that will foster a child’s love of reading.
My sister gifted us the first book and he was hooked! I have a fight to turn off the lights and get him to sleep when he’s started a MAC B spy kid book and he doesn’t want to put it down! This coming from a young man who loves math and thought he couldn’t read well and just didn’t like reading in general. I highly highly recommend this entire series to one and all!! I preorder each one as it becomes available. Mac Barnett is a superb writer (have you checked out Sam and Dave Dig a Hole?) and I recommend this to one and all!
My kids, 9 and 8, love this series. We read them out loud together and spend a lot of time predicting how Mac will get out of each crazy situation. There's a scene in this one involving Mac, the President of Iceland, and a shirtless KGB operative on a horse. We all were in hysterics. Great for getting kids engaged in adventure/spy stories, and great for making readers do accents and silly voices (my Soviet spy accent is coming along nicely, still working on what the President of Iceland might sound like...).
my 1st grader is obsessed with this series. he's read all the books now and is anxious for more to come out. i love the mix of world info, local bay area story telling and of course the spy aspect. my son flies through these and we are happy to support this new series!
