I just got this game for my 4.5 year old daughter. I played with her all day yesterday; I was happy to see that it was more challenging than the other Barbie games she has (Rapunzel and Swan Lake - both very good but a bit short and very easy). We hit a few tiny bugs that forced us to exit from a task and re-start it, but nothing too bad... until the BIG ONE. I had read that other peopple had experienced that bug, when Erika has to give flowers to three village singers and the game gives us an error message "Lip mgr.play...no loaded lip synch data" and takes us out of the game. Very frustrating! I went to the support web site indicated in the booklet, and after being re-directed to another support company site, I saw that they have other Barbie games, but don't even list this one! So NO online support whatsoever, and apparently no way to fix that bug...
Apart from the bug, I would say that overall the game is good, with very pretty graphics, good navigation and good character interactions. On the negative side, 18 tasks are too many for a small girl, especially since many involve redoing the same actions (moving and grooming a cat, making banners, etc). Even before we hit the big bug, my daughter was starting to be bored and antsy. Being able to choose 2 levels of lengths/tasks would have been a big plus.
If you are seeing the error message "LipMgr.play -> EzDlgNone has loaded no lip synch data" on the singer recruiting task, here's how to get past it:
This bug will not occur if you only give a flower to the correct singers (the ones who sing note patterns that match Erika's). Watch the little display in the lower right of the screen and sing any of the three patterns shown at the top. When the correct singers respond, their note pattern will appear below Erika's. Give them a flower. But if the singer is bad, only gray circles will appear. If you give a bad singer a flower, you will often hit the bug. So just make sure your daughter doesn't try to recruit the bad singers, and all should be well.
Except for this bug, the game is a lot of fun. My 5 year old loves it, and was able to play the entire game with almost no help.
I was lucky, and did not com across any glitch. This game worked perfectly on both my computers, and I am very pleased. I remembered playing this when I was younger, and while I did get bored after the game was over, I can't really blame that on the people who sold it to me.
After hearing amazing reviews about this game on Mac OS X, I decided to spend $45 (includes shipping) on the game for my daughter to entertain herself during the holidays while still using her brain. I spent hours making sure it was compatible with Mountain Lion before I bought this game and still when I inserted the disc into my computer I received a message that I could not run the installer on my version of Macintosh. My daughter instantly burst into tears. I could not bear this so I had to spend even more time partitioning my hard drive so I was able to run the installer but I still received an error message saying I had to be the administrator to run the game even though I am the administrator! My daughter was once again disappointed. I tried other online sources to figure out how to fix this but there was nothing I could do on my Mac and I also found out many others have experienced the same problem! Come on, Apple is one of the leading manufactures of computer and phone technology!!! I do not recommend buying this game if you have a Mac version! Don't risk the disappointment.
