If there is a way I can get my money back from Amazon, I'd ask for it. I didn't get through chapter 1 before I decided I wouldn't read any more. I have read thousands of regency romances and this is the first one I am sorry I bought. No matter how it turns out in the end, Meredith was scum to try to pass off an orphan to steal an inheritance. I now know why her first husband would rather die than consummate his marriage if this is the type of woman he wed. She can give a thousand reasons why she had to do it but the bottom line is she has no morals. Otherwise she wouldn't even think to do such a thing.
This book was awful. Just awful. There was nothing at all redeeming about the hero. He was a bullying idiot who refused to see anything beyond his own wants and needs. Meredith was a horrible attempt at a strong woman. She gave in to almost everything that was dictated to her, all the while professing how little she needed other people to sort out her life. The story was contrived and choppy, and there was nothing - not even a comical side character - to keep my interest. I barely finished this book, and I'm not really looking for perfect writing when it comes to romance novels. I just want to be entertained, and this book annoyed.
